Roy de Bâton

from The Conver Tarot de Marseille, blocks of 1760; this printing c. 1809-1833

A king in armor under a wide crowned hat grips a tall club, seated with one foot turned out on a tiled floor. Marseille kings sit while their valets stand and their cavaliers ride; rank in the courts is posture as much as costume.
