Le Bateleur

from The Jean Noblet Tarot, c. 1650-1659

Numbered I; the cutter crowded the title into LLBATELEVR. Under a wide red hat the conjurer stands behind a three-legged table laid with cups, dice, a knife and a bag, one hand raised. The dice are a Noblet touch, plain gambling gear beside the shell game; later decks tidy the table.
