VI d'Épée

from The Conver Tarot de Marseille, blocks of 1760; this printing c. 1809-1833

Six curved blades interlace around a central flower spray, VI at the sides. The woven sword field descends from Mamluk playing cards by way of Italy; the Marseille pattern is the last stop of a very long migration.
