Numbered VIIII, titled LERMITE. A bearded old man in a great dark cloak lifts a hooded lantern high, a staff in his other hand. In earlier Italian decks the figure carried an hourglass and is usually read as Time; the hermit kept the beard and traded the hourglass for a lamp.
