La Maison Dieu
from The Conver Tarot de Marseille, blocks of 1760; this printing c. 1809-1833
A tower loses its crowned top in a burst of flame while colored beads rain down and two figures fall headlong, one already in the grass. The name means the House of God; whether the scene is Babel, a lightning strike, or something else entirely has never been settled. Waite called it simply the Tower.
