Major Arcana · XIII
XIII
from The Conver Tarot de Marseille, blocks of 1760; this printing c. 1809-1833
A skeleton swings a scythe over dark ground sown with heads, hands and sprouting feet. Conver gives the number and no name; most Marseille printers left the death card unnamed, a piece of table superstition that outlived any memory of its reason.
