Urania

from The Mantegna Tarocchi, c. 1465

A muse standing with a gilded disc raised in one hand and a pointed stylus in the other, long hair loose, a stretch of water and a shoreline behind. Urania is the muse of astronomy, and the disc she holds is usually read as a celestial globe; the engraver gilded it, as he did the discs on several other Muse cards.
