A muse striding to the left, blowing a large curved horn held in both hands, hair flying, a gilded disc on the ground behind her. Melpomene is the muse of tragedy. The hills and small towns in the background of the Muse cards are drawn with the same tiny strokes as the landscapes in Ferrarese painting of the 1460s, one of the clues pointing to the engraver's origin.
