Speranza

from The Mantegna Tarocchi, c. 1465

A woman with her hands joined in prayer, looking up to a burst of light, usually read as the face of God, in the corner, a phoenix rising from flames at her feet. Hope. The phoenix, reborn from its own ashes, is her emblem of resurrection. The lettering reads SPERANZA XXXVIIII, four I's rather than IX, the usual medieval form.
